This website is run by me, David Olney, in Adelaide, South Australia. I only collect the personal information I need to reply to you and, if you choose, to send you my articles. I don’t sell it or share it for marketing.

What I collect

  • When you use the contact form: your name, email address, phone number (if you give it) and your message.
  • When you subscribe to updates: your email address.
  • When you visit: like most websites, the web server keeps basic technical records such as your IP address and browser type, to keep the site running and secure.

How I use it

  • To reply to your enquiry. You will also receive an automatic email confirming I’ve received your message.
  • To email you when I publish a new article, if you have subscribed. Every email includes a link to unsubscribe.
  • To protect the site from spam and misuse.

Email updates

If you subscribe, my email system may record whether an email was opened and which links were clicked, so I can see what readers find useful. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email, or by contacting me.

Cookies and statistics

This website does not use advertising or tracking cookies. Fonts are hosted on this website, so no information is sent to third-party font services when you visit.

Spam protection

The contact form uses spam protection to tell people from automated bots. This may include Cloudflare Turnstile, which processes technical information about your browser to make that check.

Who else sees your information

Your information is stored on the website’s server and in my email. Emails from the website are sent through an email delivery service. I don’t share your information with anyone else unless the law requires it.

How long I keep it

I keep enquiries for as long as they are useful for our conversation. Subscriber details are kept until you unsubscribe.

Your choices

You can ask to see, correct or delete the personal information I hold about you by contacting me. If you are not satisfied with how I handle your information, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

Changes to this policy

I may update this policy from time to time. This version was last updated in October 2026.
