A good conversation gives an idea somewhere to go. Someone asks an unexpected question, brings a different experience or notices a consequence we have missed. I enjoy podcasting because it makes room for that process, and invites listeners to think along with us.

Talking About Marketing

Steve Davis and David Olney
David with Steve Davis, his co-host on Talking About Marketing.

I co-host Talking About Marketing with Steve Davis from Talked About Marketing. We explore what helps business owners and leaders understand their customers, communicate clearly and make worthwhile progress.

Our conversations range across books, ideas, everyday experiences and practical business problems. We organise them around Person, Principles, Problems and Perspicacity: the people doing the work, the ideas guiding them, the difficulties they encounter and the observations that help them notice something new.

We hope the result gives you something useful to consider in your own business, and something enjoyable to listen to along the way.

Earlier podcast work

My earlier podcast work includes Blind Insights, Blind Drunk and Strategikon. These earlier projects remain part of my development as a podcaster, bringing different subjects and styles of conversation into my work.

Blind Insights

In Blind Insights, Tim Whiffen and I explored complex problem solving, philosophy, politics and the questions that make ordinary life interesting. Teaching and curiosity met in conversations that gave us room to follow an idea, test it and discover where it led.

Blind Drunk

Blind Drunk carried that curiosity into more relaxed territory. In this spin-off from Blind Insights, Tim and I made room for lighter subjects, humour and spirited conversation.

Strategikon

My earlier podcasting work also included Strategikon, SAGE International Australia’s podcast exploring international affairs, strategy and security. In those conversations, I considered events alongside the history, interests and assumptions that helped explain them.

The subjects differ across these programmes, but the invitation is much the same: listen with curiosity, question what seems obvious and see what becomes clearer through conversation.
