Hello and welcome to my website.
For a number of years I have been doing a lot of things at the same time without a place to put all of the pieces together as part of a cohesive narrative. In any given week I might record two podcasts, teach at University, do some research for someone, and train someone else how to address a complex problem in a new way.
All of the pieces have made sense to me at the centre of the web, but the pieces have not necessarily been clearly connected to each other, or accessible, for people who want to understand the broad context of what I do and why I do it.
A Law School Professor once described me as being an Insurgent Consultant, because I was always wearing a black leather jacket, doing something interesting, and he never knew what I was going to be doing next. At the time, I was pretty chuffed to be called an Insurgent Consultant, but as time passed I began to wonder if being clear and cohesive might be more useful than being mysterious and entertaining. Don’t get me wrong, I like being called mysterious and entertaining, but being comprehensible and coherent are very useful characteristics of an effective communication strategy.
When Dr. John Bruni and I started recording the Strategikon podcast for SAGE International Australia in 2016 I got an inkling of how much I like podcasting, but it was when Tim Whiffen and I started recording Blind Insights in December 2018 that I realised I had found the glue that would stick all of the things I do together. The Blind Insights podcast has become a space in which all of the things I am interested in and do have coalesced into a whole.
With the birth of Blind Insights I started seriously reflecting on my own narrative, and in December 2020 Steve Davis helped me flesh out what my online home should be like. Less than a month later my website is a reality and you are reading my first blog post.
I am slightly more excited than nervous about having my own home on the internet and am looking forward to sharing my expertise, thoughts, and experiences with you.
I like to tell engaging and enlightening stories, and to help people shape and share what they want to say. I like to learn new things and to share what I have worked out. I like to do what I can to empower people to thrive and I like to be around inspiring people. I am trying to take one step at a time toward leaving the world in a better state than I found it.
